Tibetan Mastiff VS. Kavkazskaja Ovtjaka
Zodd met these two Kavkazskaja Ovtjaka (Caucasian sheepdog) for the first time on April 7th. They are watchdogs in a nearby minkfarm and forgot to bark when Zodd trotted up to them. The old dog was a friend of my previous dog Rocky and he was very happy to meet puppy Zodd.
The likeness between the Tibetan Mastiff and the Kavkazskaja Ovtjaka is obvious. They have been used for similar tasks in the past (and in the present as well) - guarding property and/or their humans.
Both are very impressive breeds with a strong will of their own since they have been bred for their ability to make decisions without the master at hand all the time. Clever dogs in other words, but far from a dog suited for every person.
They both use their bark as a signal for people and predators to keep away. Especially after nightfall - just to let intruders know that they should not stumble into the territory by mistake.
